I was feeling restless and taking issue with my job of three + years recently and began looking for new work. I interviewed at dozens of offices and was offered many different jobs, but none of them seemed right. Then I found what I thought was the most perfect job in the world for me. I gave my resignation at the place that had been sucking my happiness right outta me for over three years and anxiously awaited my new beginning. Turns out, it wasn't so perfect and the job ended in one week...canned with zero explanation. I was mortified and slightly relieved at the same time...the commute was an hour and half one way.
I was officially unemployed and terrified, but I took the opportunity and grabbed the bull by the horns. It was a Friday and I came home and began searching for jobs. I spend my whole weekend scouring websites and newspapers. When I woke up Monday morning, I started working my way down the list of possibilities and had 4 interviews set by the end of the day, and actually completed one that afternoon. It was for a part time home care position for seniors and didn't pay much, but I thought it is better than nothing and at least I could feel good about myself while I look for more steady work. While I was there, I met a few people in the office and was cheerful and chatty...you know, my usual self. After the interview, they asked me to meet with another staff member and she told me they had a position open up in the main office for an administrator. She wanted to know if I would be interested. I said I would consider it and went on my way.
By the time I got home, the owner of that company called me and said he would like me to come back the next day to discuss the office opening. I agreed, but had already scheduled another interview for the morning, so it would have to be at lunch time. I was late, but had called them to let them know and they were courteous enough about it. When I finally arrived, the owner and I had a lovely chat and found we had much in common with our love of the arts. He asked if I would like to come in for the next few days and learn about the position...with pay, of course. I started the next day. It was less than one week later and they offered me a full time position and I've found it to be the most pleasant and fulfilling job I've had in over 15 years. I guess it took me getting screwed over royally and being completely miserable at two other jobs before I could find the one I really needed. I am just tickled with it and am happy I went through the turmoil so I could truly appreciate the real deal.
